Transportation

Greensville County is a phenomenally accessible convenient location, featuring access to major roadways, airport, rail, and seaport venues that place nearly 50 percent of the nation’s economic activity within a 500-mile radius.

Highways

Numerous freight and trucking service providers operate in Greensville County because of our highly accessible location. Greensville County is accessible through six interchanges directly adjacent to I-95, one of the nation’s primary interstates.

Rail and seaport service bring even more accessibility to Greensville County by way of freight and intermodal transportation.

Rail Service
Two of the country’s largest railroad systems serve the area: Norfolk Southern and CSX.

Norfolk Southern routes run east to west and operate 20,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia with connections to every major Eastern port. CSX operates 21,000 miles of track, providing access to 70 ports and nationwide transloading and distribution services on a North-South route. Both of these railroad systems provide efficient options for manufacturers who ship raw materials and finished good across the nation.

Seaport Service
Two ports provide inland access to seaport service: the Port of Virginia and the Port of Richmond.

Port of Virginia
A leader in quality and environment, the Port of Virginia is easily accessible within 90 minutes and also offers intermodal capabilities. At 50-feet, Port of Virginia offers the deepest shipping channels on the United States East Coast and is fully prepared to accommodate the 10,000+ TEU vessels.

More than 30 international steamship lines service the Port, making Virginia a true maritime hub, and both Norfolk Southern and CSX offer on-dock, double-stack intermodal service to key inland markets in the Midwest, Ohio Valley, and the Southeast. The Port of Virginia maintains ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications.

Port of Richmond
Port of Richmond, just 56 miles to the north of Greensville, offers another alternative for accessing inland markets, providing twice weekly Container-on-Barge service from Hampton Roads to Richmond.
